Terms & Conditions

About these terms
These terms apply when you make an enquiry or booking with Steele Summit for a guided walk, expedition, family day, or mountain craft workshop, whether made through this website, by email, or by phone.
Enquiries and bookings
Enquiries made through this website are not a confirmed booking. A booking is only confirmed once we've corresponded with you directly and agreed on the details, dates, and any payment. We do not currently take payment through this website.
Nature of the activities
Mountain walking, hillwalking, and expeditions take place in an outdoor environment and carry inherent risks, including but not limited to changeable weather, difficult terrain, and physical exertion. By booking, you confirm that you believe yourself to be reasonably fit and suited to the activity you've booked, and you agree to follow the guidance of your Mountain Leader at all times.
Client cancellations
Our cancellation policy is designed to provide a fair balance between flexibility for clients and protection for the time, preparation and commitments required to deliver mountain activities. If you need to cancel your booking, please notify Steele Summit as soon as possible.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the following cancellation charges will apply:
- More than 28 days before the activity: full refund of payments made except the 25% booking fee.
- 15–28 days before the activity: 25% of the total booking fee will be retained.
- 8–14 days before the activity: 50% of the total booking fee will be retained.
- 2–7 days before the activity: 75% of the total booking fee will be retained.
- Less than 48 hours before the activity, or failure to attend: 100% of the total booking fee will be payable.
Where a deposit has been paid, the deposit may be retained in accordance with the cancellation period above. Mountain Ready includes a consultation service which, due to its preparatory nature as a call or email service, is non-refundable.
Changing your booking
Where possible, Steele Summit may allow a booking to be transferred to an alternative date, subject to availability and suitability of the proposed activity. Requests to transfer a booking made more than 14 days before the activity will normally be accommodated without an additional charge. Requests made within 14 days may be treated as a cancellation and may be subject to the cancellation charges above.
Steele Summit cancellations
Mountain activities are dependent upon appropriate weather, environmental conditions, access, route conditions and the safety and suitability of the activity for the participants. Steele Summit reserves the right to cancel, postpone, shorten, modify or change an activity where, in the reasonable professional judgement of the Mountain Leader, conditions or circumstances mean that the planned activity cannot be undertaken safely or appropriately.
Where Steele Summit cancels an activity before it begins for safety or operational reasons, clients will normally be offered:
- the opportunity to transfer their booking to a suitable alternative date; or
- a full refund where an alternative date cannot be agreed.
No additional compensation will normally be payable in circumstances where cancellation or postponement is necessary for safety reasons.
Weather
Mountain weather can change rapidly and conditions may differ significantly from those experienced at lower levels. A forecast that appears suitable at the time of booking does not guarantee that an activity will be able to proceed as originally planned. Where possible, Steele Summit will work with clients to adapt the route, itinerary, timing or objectives of an activity rather than cancel it, provided that doing so remains safe and appropriate. The final decision regarding the safety and suitability of an activity rests with the Mountain Leader.
Exceptional circumstances
Steele Summit will consider requests relating to serious illness, injury, bereavement or other exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Clients are encouraged to consider appropriate travel and activity insurance where available.
Payment conditions
On booking, 25% of the service fee is due, and the rest is payable a month before. If the booking is within a month of the activity taking place, the whole fee is payable immediately. Cancellation terms apply as above.
Your responsibilities
Please tell us about any medical conditions, injuries, or other factors that might affect your ability to safely take part before your session. Please also bring appropriate clothing and equipment as advised by us in advance.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law. Beyond that, participation in outdoor activities is at your own risk, and Steele Summit accepts no liability for loss, damage, or injury arising from circumstances outside our reasonable control.
